And for those of you interested in nature other than the Marine Environment Chris Allen has given us the following invitation. Chris and his team and volunteers are doing lots of work to find out Koala numbers in the local area and hopefully prevent logging of their few habitats.

Hello everyone

The koala surveys that have been underway in coastal forests between the Bermagui and Bega Rivers is entering a phase in which volunteers will be able to make a significant contribution to the program.

We will hosting two volunteer days on the Saturday 9th and Sun 17th March 2013.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about and participating in the program can join with members of the koala survey team on either or both of those days.

We will meet at Victoria and Steve Reed’s property at 9 am on both days.  They live on Whittles Rd, on the eastern edge of one of the main areas of koala activity.  This road joins the Bermagui/Tathra Rd on its western side, just to the north of the Wapengo Creek bridge.

The track into their property is approximately 700m from this junction.  There is a numbered sign there (720) and a yellow buoy attached to a tree.

Before we go into the field we will discuss the survey program.  We will also need to register and run though safety procedures.  We will then divide into teams and go to predetermined locations where we will undertake searches for koala evidence and record ecological information about the sites.

The day will proceed at a leisurely pace and we should be finished by approximately 16:00.

If you are interested in participating please contact me at this email and I will send you some more detailed information sheets and registration forms.

I am happy to discuss further with anyone – My mobile is 0417231477.
